"The artist/designer from the former industrial city of Liège was invited to use artistic gestures to weave together elements from different places and times into a coherent whole. In his practice, he systematically transforms discarded, found objects into new forms that often take on functions entirely different from their original context. Yet, through the memory of their past, they carry within them a new anachronistic perspective. During his residency in Kortrijk, he cycled through the former industrial site, retrieving forgotten construction materials from hidden corners, which became the foundation for the infrastructure of this exhibition. By subtly shifting and transforming the existing elements in simple yet uncanny ways, he created the cohesion and mental frame-work for the hemispheres of Hippocampus." Elders Collectief
The seventh exhibition curated by ELDERS Collectief opens on Saturday, September 13, in a historic industrial setting that has played a fundamental role in Kortrijk's economic and creative history. For Hippocampus, ELDERS selected both emerging talent and established artists from Belgium and abroad.
The exhibition brings together work by Elsemarijn Bruys, Arnaud Eubelen, Geert Goiris, Aglaia Konrad, Lennart Lahuis, Lawrence Lek, Brigitte Louter, Gordon Matta-Clark, Charlotte Posenenske and Shervin/e Sheikh Rezaei.
